Veterans At Work

SHRM Vermont State Council Veteran Hiring Initiative

“They served to be part of something greater than themselves, now we have the opportunity to be part of something greater too."

In order to grow our Vermont companies and meet the State’s employment goal to close the workforce gap, we’ll need to fully utilize all of our talent resources – talent that has proven success in leading and developing teams, working with a diverse workforce, and the ability to inspire and motive people to achieve collective success. Veterans, Guard Members, Reservists and their spouses bring the qualities of leadership, integrity, excellence, and nimbleness we value in our workplaces and will play a critical role in our economy’s growth and success.

    Strategic Initiative Mission

SHRM Vermont State Council will form a strategic alliance with the Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR), Vermont Department of Labor Veterans Services and the Veterans Administration (WRJ, VT) to create outreach programs aimed at educating employers on the value of veteran, reserve and military family hiring.

    Goals for 2019

    • Engage employers in acting as advocates for employee participation in the military by educating them about the ESGR Statement of Support that asks them to recognize the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.

    ESGR Statement of Support

The Employer Statement of Support is a visible affirmation, signed by an organization's leader, that signifies their commitment to supporting their Guard and Reserve members (and their spouses) in service to their country.

By signing the Statement of Support, you affirm that you will recognize, honor, and comply with USERRA; that you will provide your managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage your citizen service member employees; that you appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills that service members bring to the workplace; and that you will continually recognize and support our service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.

In signing the Employer Statement of Support, you demonstrate your patriotism and that you are a military-friendly organization, and in supporting our citizen service members, you are also serving your country!
