Invitation - Tapping Ready Talent

    Dear Valued Buiness Partner,

The SHRM Vermont State Council would like to invite you to join us in learning how to build a Military Hiring Program for your workplace by attending the Tapping Ready Talent: Creating Military* Hiring Opportunities on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Regional Readiness & Training Center on 161 University Drive at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.

Vermont's Veterans hold deep roots in our nation’s history, lending a helping hand in war efforts going all the way back to our Country’s fight for independence. In addition, our Vermont citizen-soldiers and their families share a unique role within our communities when it comes to their monthly drill weekends, annual training, military schools, state disaster recovery, and deployments.

The SHRM Vermont State Council has partnered with the SHRM Foundation, USAA Foundation, and PsychArmor Institute to bring you an opportunity to gain certification and training in creating a Military Hiring Program. We are offering a FREE hands-on learning opportunity for participants to apply best practices in creating a Military Hiring Program in their own workplace. This 6 credit-hour program is pending SHRM and HRCI approval.

All Human Resources Professionals and Business Leaders are encouraged to attend!

Additionally, I want to encourage you to become trained in attracting, hiring and retaining veterans through the SHRM Foundation’s Veteran at Work Certificate Program. This 10-hour program is complimentary and open to all – you don’t have to be in HR to get trained!

The SHRM Foundation believes that a proactive and well-informed veteran employment initiative can mitigate challenges faced by employers and veterans. Through education and awareness, HR professionals can provide effective recruiting, onboarding, training, support, mentoring and retention of veteran and military-connected talent who represent current and potential employees. Here are three reasons why your organization should value attracting, hiring and retraining talented veterans:

    • Hiring and retention of “the right talent” is critical to profitability for any organization.

    • Veterans leverage cross-cultural experiences as a competitive advantage in the era of increased business globalization.

    • Veterans bring organizational commitment and loyalty to the civilian workplace and can effectively integrate and contribute to a team.

The Veterans at Work Certificate, developed for HR professionals, hiring managers, and front-line supervisors, is a multi-faceted program from the SHRM Foundation and brought to you with generous support from Comcast NBCUniversal. Through this certificate program you will:

    • Learn the value that skilled veterans bring to the civilian workplace

    • Demonstrate your commitment to attract, hire and retain these talented professionals

    • Earn 10 professional development credits toward your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification

I hope you join me in sourcing and developing new and talented Veteran and Reservist resources for our Vermont workforce!
